Definition of 'Index Future'
An Index Future is a futures contract that is based on an index. The most common types of Index Futures are Equity Index Futures.
In the United States, the popular Equity Index Futures are the S&P500 Index Future, Russell 2000 Index Future, DJIA Index Future, and the NASDAQ 100 Index Future.
In Europe we have the FTSE 100 Index Future, CAC 40 Index Future, DAX Index Future.
In Asia and the Pacific Rim you will find the SFE SPI 200 (Australia's Sydney Futures Exchange Index), the Nikkei 225 Index Future, and the Hang Seng Index Future.
