Definition of '$ADV/$DECL $NYAD NYSE Advancing Declining Issues'
The $ADV/$DECL is the NYSE's Advancing/Declining Issues ratio. This is calculated by feed vendors such as eSignal every 6 seconds and at longer time periods by the exchange itself. It represents the ratio of number of stocks that have higher prices (verses the previous day's close) divided by the number of stokcs that have lower prices. Shares with unchanged prices are excluded. If 1000 stocks have advanced and 500 have fallen then the value will be 2. If 250 have advanced and 500 have dropped then the value will be 0.5.
This ratio is also sometimes referred to as $NYAD.
