Market Profile Calculator 7127

Hi Guys,

I live in the UK and i am a day trader through a spreadbetting company.
Recently, i have had a growing interest on the Market Profile and noticed that you have to become a member and pay for software packages etc to get access to MP.
I am glad to see that this forum offers a MP calculator but wanted some feedback from people who have used it.
I am trying to calculate through the MP calculaor, the VAL, VAH and POC for the UK FTSE100, German Index and Crude oil.
Is this possible, and how do i use the MP calculator offered on this forum.

Any feedback will much appreciated
There is no charge to use the Market Profile Calculator unless you are using it for very wide profiles or very small tick sizes and that's only to prevent traders from putting an unreasonable strain on the server by requiring it to perform very large calculations to construct these profiles. In cases like that you need to become a premium member where you have much more latitude. More details on the features page.

There more info about the calculator on this topic:

...or just ask your question here.
Hello.
Firstly i would like to thank you for responding to my post. I am basically trying to calculate a market profile using the prior days trading activity, for example, i would like to calculate the trading activity for yesterdays Crude Oil from 00:00GMT to 00:00 GMT for that day. I would like to calculate the market profile using 30 Min candles. Is this possible with the Market Profile calculator that is available? Also, i am not to sure on what to put for the decimals, could you please help me out

Thanks you so much
Piptrader
The way to do this is to put the 30 minute highs and lows into the text box in the calculator. Here are the 30 minute highs and lows for the CL F2 for Friday 12/16/2011 from 9:30am to 4pm:

94.18 93.81
94.04 93.68
93.80 93.08
93.18 92.66
93.01 92.52
93.29 92.83
93.82 92.91
93.70 93.24
94.24 93.51
94.23 93.90
94.16 93.87
94.04 93.86
94.02 93.61
93.90 93.78

Copy those and paste them into the Market Profile Calculator. Because they are quoted and trade in hundreds you can leave the "Decimal Places" at the default of 2. However, you will want to change the tick size to 0.01 to indicate the increments that this symbol trades in.

Click generate and you should see the profile and at the bottom of the profile should be the following value area calculations:

VAH= 94.18
POC= 93.90
VAL= 93.22

Now if you want to calculate the profile for the whole day you would take all the highs and lows for all half hour brackets and do the same:

94.02 93.85
94.30 93.95
94.39 94.11
94.31 94.05
94.16 93.75
94.23 93.81
94.30 93.88
94.20 93.99
94.09 93.75
94.20 93.92
94.00 93.55
94.27 93.67
94.45 94.20
94.79 94.27
94.57 94.06
94.45 94.03
94.25 93.66
94.16 93.68
94.51 93.96
94.18 93.81
94.04 93.68
93.80 93.08
93.18 92.66
93.01 92.52
93.29 92.83
93.82 92.91
93.70 93.24
94.24 93.51
94.23 93.90
94.16 93.87
94.04 93.86
94.02 93.61
93.90 93.78

When you generate the profile for this you will get the following message if you are not a premium user:

The profile that you are trying to create is 227 ticks wide and the maximum number of ticks for standard users has been set to 200.

If you are a premium member then you will see the profile with the value area calculations below:
VAH= 94.39
POC= 93.99
VAL= 93.65

For the first case, where you aren't a premium member you have two choices.

1. Become a premium member
or
2. Reduce the tick size for the profile:

If you reduce the tick size to (say) 0.05 the a profile with the following values will be generated:
VAH= 94.42
POC= 94.02
VAL= 93.52

These values are not as accurate as the values generated by the profile with a tick size of 0.01 but it might be sufficient for what you're doing.

Let me know if you have further questions.
