Is Backtesting a Waste of Time - Your Input Please


I'm in the process or writing a report for my clients and colleagues on the topic of backtesting, but I keep hearing from various traders that it is a waste of time and not valid.

Please post your thoughts on backtesting. This is wide open here, so any thoughts on the matter are welcome.
